Friday the 13th but the music ain’t scary. Gonna keep this short and sweet. Here’s what I’ve been listening to and what I’d like to share wit’cha.
I wasn’t all that excited when I heard Garbage was releasing a new album. After a couple of great ones that still transport me back to a specific time and place in my life, they kind of lost their relevance. I still liked them, but like the other band from the 90’s The Cranberries, I was “meh” on hearing the new stuff. Unlike The Cranberries new record, which I haven’t mentioned due to Thumper’s Mother’s rule (“If you can’t say anything nice don’t say anything at all.”) I really like the Garbage single. I say again, I really like the new Garbage single “Blood for Poppies“. It was nice to see Shirley on TV a few years back, she’s painfully thin and it makes her look harsher than I’d prefer but she’s still beautiful to watch. The song reminds me a bit of Santigold who also has a new single out “Disparate Youth” which makes me look forward to the record in May.
Moving from women who rock, here’s the second single off the Mona record which I love madly. It reminds me vaguely of Rod Stewart circa Faces. *shrug* Listen to it a few times, it’ll get into your blood, you can thank me later. Mona – “Lean Into The Fall“. The video makes me miss The Clash.
Speaking of new song that make me miss old ones. Florence + The Machine and Josh Homme did a great cover of Johnny and June Carter Cash’s “Jackson“. If it made you lonely for the original, here’s a great version of John and June’s version “Jackson“.
Back to the new stuff. Another song to crank with your car windows down while driving fast and enjoying the spring. Cloud Nothings – “Stay Useless“. They’re getting shit for sounding like The Strokes, I can hear it too, but I’m still gonna check out the record.
A band I want to see live. These guys look like a lot of fun. King Khan & The Shrines – Bite My Tongue.
What a great song, and a video that seems so high/low tech. Another song I can’t get out of my head, what brilliant lyrics! The Naked And Famous – “Girls Like You“. Do yourself a favor, just absorb the song a few times, then decipher the lyrics, your appreciation for it will double.
“Sour by the minute but you’re sweeter by the hour”. Another song about girls, lol. I bet the kids making the video had fun. The song kicks ass, this album is on my “to buy” list. Band of Skulls – “Sweet Sour“.
and a throwback because I couldn’t resist. I found my 12” of this last week and it’s still got me laughing. I loved this song. The Polecats – “Make A Circuit With Me”
